31 CSO petitioners ask Speaker Oboth-Oboth to intervene over suspension of NGOs

Civic Space & Media Freedom Verified Uganda (national) 3 Aug 2026 Severity: 1/5

In an August 3 letter signed by 31 petitioners from civil society organisations, activists asked Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oboth-Oboth to intervene over the suspension of some NGOs and the failure to constitute the National Bureau for NGOs, the Daily Monitor reported. ACFIM executive director Henry Muguzi said in the petition that the suspensions had no legal basis because the bureau's members had not been appointed or gazetted. A Parliament spokesperson said the petition would be forwarded to the relevant offices.

A national event, not tied to one district.
