Attorney General tells Parliament Wangadya remains UHRC Chairperson despite resignation notice

Policy & Legislation Single source Uganda (national) 15 Jul 2026 Severity: 1/5

Attorney General Sam Mayanja told Parliament that Mariam Wangadya's notice of intention to resign did not amount to a resignation, which in his view takes effect only once a formal letter is submitted and accepted, so she remains chairperson. He also said the Uganda Human Rights Commission remains fully functional and fully constituted despite an Inspectorate of Government investigation, responding to concerns raised by MP Joseph Ssewungu on 7 July.

A national event, not tied to one district.
