Babiito clan members announce successor to Tooro throne; Princess Komuntale disputes it

Policy & Legislation Disputed Uganda (national) 9 Sep 2026 Severity: 1/5

According to ChimpReports, members of the Babiito clan announced that Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, a UBC journalist, had been selected as the next Omukama of Tooro after the death of King Oyo. Princess Ruth Komuntale, the late king's sister, told the media at Karuziika Palace that the announcement was inaccurate and that the family had not finished consultations; the article reports that Oyo's will names his biological son as first heir.

A national event, not tied to one district.

Disputed: Babiito clan members say Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma was selected as Omukama, while Princess Ruth Komuntale, backed by Princess Elizabeth Bagaaya, says the announcement does not reflect the late king's instructions.
