Busoga sugarcane farmers demand end to millers' 5 percent 'trash' deduction

Protest & Civil Unrest Verified Uganda (national) 20 Nov 2025 Severity: 1/5

Sugarcane out-growers in Busoga Sub-region complained that millers continue to deduct 5 percent from their deliveries, which they say the Sugarcane (Amendment) Act abolished, the Daily Monitor reports. Peter Mubiru, chairperson of the Kamuli Out-Growers Association, demanded an explanation from millers and urged the Sugar Industry Stakeholders Council to take up the issue.

A national event, not tied to one district.
