Cabinet extends terms of LC I, LC II and Women Council leaders by up to 180 days

According to cabinet resolutions announced at a press briefing, Cabinet approved a further extension of up to 180 days, from 31 December 2025, of the terms of Local Council One and Two leaders and Women Councils, after an earlier 180-day extension that ran to 30 December 2025. State Minister for ICT and National Guidance Godfrey Kabyanga said the move is lawful and intended to avoid a leadership vacuum while preparations for local council elections continue.
