Policy & Legislation Single source Uganda (national) 18 Mar 2026 Severity: 1/5

At a meeting of Parliament's COSASE on 18 March 2026, chairperson Medard Ssegoona and other MPs accused KCCA of enforcing the law harshly against poor street vendors while not acting against the businessman behind the Owino Market demolition. KCCA Deputy Executive Director Benon Kigenyi told the committee that the demolition was done without authorisation and that KCCA will seek legal redress against Hamis Kiggundu. Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi asked the government to explain KCCA's role, and MP Ronald Balimwezo called for a select committee.
