DPP says Shs60b BoU fraud prosecution of nine Finance officials will continue despite directive

Corruption & Abuse of Office Verified Uganda (national) 3 Sep 2026 Severity: 1/5

Director of Public Prosecutions Lino Anguzu told the Daily Monitor that the prosecution of nine Finance ministry officials over the alleged Shs60 billion Bank of Uganda cyber fraud will continue, saying the evidence before his office does not exonerate any of them, though aspects of the case are under review. In court before Justice David Makumbi, defence lawyer Mwesigwa Rukutana had questioned why the charges were not withdrawn in light of the presidential directive, while Chief State Attorney Richard Birivumbuka rejected the argument that executive directives end criminal proceedings.

A national event, not tied to one district.
