Education ministry says teachers' pay will not be tied to TELA attendance system in current financial year

According to Uganda Radio Network, Ministry of Education and Sports Director for Education Standards Mary Frances Atima said teachers would not be paid on the basis of attendance records from the TELA digital monitoring system in the current financial year, as discussions on the proposal continue. The proposal, presented earlier by a ministry human resource officer, would link GPS and biometric attendance data to the payroll. Teachers' union founder Teopista Birungi Mayanja and other stakeholders called the plan premature.
