Electoral Commission closes nomination of parliamentary candidates for the 2026 elections

According to the Daily Monitor, the Electoral Commission finished nominating candidates for the parliamentary elections set for 15 January 2026. The paper sets out the EC's campaign guidelines, under which campaigns may run only from 7am to 6pm, inflammatory or sectarian language is banned, and government resources may not be used for personal campaigns. EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi warned candidates against language that incites disorder or hatred.
