Electoral Commission disqualifies NUP candidate Christopher Ategeka in Buyanja County, Kibaale

Election Related Disputed Kibaale 28 Dec 2025 Severity: 2/5

The Electoral Commission ruled that the nomination of Christopher Ategeka, the NUP parliamentary candidate for Buyanja County, was void, after a petition argued that three supporters on his nomination papers were not verified registered voters and had been replaced with other names. According to ChimpReports, the EC held hearings on 23 November and 4 December 2025 and found that the replacement names did not match the signatures on the form. NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi said the decision was politically influenced and claimed Ategeka had earlier refused a Shs300 million offer to step down for Finance Minister Matia Kasaija.

Disputed: The EC says the substituted names did not match the original signatures, while Kyagulanyi says the three people appeared at the hearing, confirmed signing and reproduced their signatures, and that the ruling was politically motivated.
