Electoral Commission reports 30 parliamentary election petitions filed after January 2026 elections

Election Related Single source Uganda (national) 25 Mar 2026 Severity: 1/5

An Electoral Commission status report dated 25 March 2026 lists at least 30 parliamentary election petitions before High Court circuits including Masaka, Moroto, Mbarara, Tororo and Mukono, with the Commission named as a respondent in all, according to The Observer. EC litigation head Eric Sabiiti said 24 of the petitions challenge Woman MP results and that the window for directly elected MPs closes on 2 April; he attributed the modest number to a largely free and fair process, while an unnamed justice-sector source suggested it may reflect declining confidence in the judiciary.

A national event, not tied to one district.
