Electoral Commission says it will not fund party observers to witness ballot printing abroad

Electoral Commission spokesperson Paul Bukenya told Uganda Radio Network that parties and other stakeholders must pay their own costs to witness the printing, packing and delivery of ballot materials, and defended awarding the printing contracts to foreign firms after a re-evaluation directed by the PPDA. The same day, the Democratic Party demanded that the Commission meet the cost of party observers, saying travel to the five printing companies was unaffordable.
