Electoral Commission schedules repeat LC1 elections in 54 villages for 15 and 19 October

According to the Daily Monitor, the Electoral Commission issued a statement dated 6 October scheduling a first batch of repeat Local Council I chairperson elections in 54 villages and cells for 15 and 19 October 2026. EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi said the repeats follow complaints challenging results of the 28 July LC1 polls, and that further batches would be announced as remaining complaints are decided. The paper reports that 38 of the affected villages are in Kampala.
