The Electoral Commission began nominating candidates for parliamentary and special interest group seats for the 2026 General Election. According to the Daily Monitor, those nominated across districts included ministers David Bahati (as an Independent in Ndorwa West), Haruna Kasolo and Henry Musasizi, and several NRM members who lost party primaries and ran as Independents. Returning officers in Buikwe, Rubirizi and Mbarara described the exercise as peaceful or smooth.
