European Union issues statement on pre- and post-election violence and threats against Bobi Wine

International Actions Single source Uganda (national) 23 Jan 2026 Severity: 1/5

According to ChimpReports, the European Union issued a statement from Brussels regretting pre- and post-election violence and threats, particularly against opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), and urged Ugandan authorities to guarantee the safety of all political participants. The EU noted the official results and aligned itself with concerns of the AU–COMESA–IGAD observer mission about an uneven playing field, arrests of civil society actors, restrictions on political activity and the internet shutdown, while saying it remains committed to engagement with Uganda.

A national event, not tied to one district.
