Finance Ministry accountability unit queries Health Ministry's COVID-19 face mask procurement

Corruption & Abuse of Office Verified Uganda (national) 2 Nov 2020 Severity: 1/5

According to a report by the Budget Monitoring and Accountability Unit of the Ministry of Finance, seen by URN, the Ministry of Health's procurement and distribution of non-medical masks showed irregularities including high unit costs, poor planning, lack of accountability and delivery shortfalls. URN reports that the Finance Ministry has asked the Auditor General for a forensic audit of Health Ministry COVID-19 spending and the PPDA to audit direct procurements. The Health Ministry disputed the findings, saying masks cost Shs2,400 each rather than the Shs4,946 queried.

A national event, not tied to one district.
