Fisheries minister directs mukene fishers to return to traditional scoop-fishing method

State Minister for Fisheries Robert Migadde said the government has not banned mukene fishing but is tightening controls on gear, and urged fishers to return to the traditional chota-chota scoop method, warning that those using illegal gear could lose boats and licences. According to the Daily Monitor, fishers at landing sites on Lake Victoria complained they have been kept off the lake for about two years and asked the government to define the approved gear.
