Former MUBS Principal Prof. Balunywa remanded over alleged irregular staff recruitment

Prof. Balunywa, the former Principal of Makerere University Business School, appeared before Chief Magistrate Reachel Nakyazze on abuse of office charges and was remanded, NTV Uganda reports. Prosecutors allege that between February and April 2023 he irregularly recruited three unqualified people as Administrative Assistants, at a cost to government; he denied the charges and applied for bail, with a ruling set for 5 September. A former acting HR director charged alongside him with neglect of duty had been granted bail the previous week, and the state has opened a second file on alleged irregular recruitment of further staff.
