General Court Martial remands former military intelligence chief Maj Gen James Birungi to Makindye

The UPDF General Court Martial, chaired by Brig Gen Richard Tukachungura, sent Maj Gen James Birungi, a former Chief of Military Intelligence, back to the Makindye Military Police detention centre until 24 September 2026 after his sureties did not appear. According to the Daily Monitor, he faces charges of treachery and security-related offences linked to allegations that fabricated intelligence reports were used to obtain operational funds; he denies the allegations.
