Government announces measures to formalise artisanal mining at UNMC–miners' associations MoU signing

According to Nile Post, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development announced plans to formalise artisanal and small-scale mining, including designated mineral markets, biometric registration of miners and support for a Bank of Uganda gold purchase programme. The announcement was made at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Uganda National Mining Company and mining sector associations.
