According to the Daily Monitor, the Greater Mukono Sugarcane Growers Association wrote to the Trade minister in a letter dated 19 September 2025 contesting the nomination of Ms Elizabeth Mbeiza as the Buganda farmers' representative on the new Uganda Sugar Industry Stakeholders' Council. The association said the groups that nominated her are unregistered and that she and the nominating official work for Victoria Sugar Factory rather than being farmers; Ms Mbeiza told the paper she is also a sugarcane farmer and qualifies.
