The High Court assigned Justice Simon Peter Kinobe of the Civil Division to decide an application by Dr Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obeid Lutale, accused in a treason case, on their right to legal representation of their choice. The judge ordered written submissions and set his ruling for 13 August 2026. The applicants argue the right was undermined by the arrest and prosecution of Erias Lukwago, a member of their defence team, and the deportation of Kenyan counsel Martha Karua, The Observer reports.
