High Court dismisses lawyer John Matovu's bid to halt trial over Shs7.7bn Busoga compensation funds

Justice & Court Rulings Verified Uganda (national) 25 Sep 2026 Severity: 1/5

According to the Daily Monitor, Justice David Makumbi of the High Court dismissed an application by former Uganda Law Society president John Matovu to stop his trial over the alleged theft of more than Shs7.7 billion in war-loss compensation meant for Busoga Growers' Cooperative Union. The judge ruled the application premature, saying Matovu's concerns about the evidence and advocate-client privilege should be raised before the trial court.

A national event, not tied to one district.
