High Court finds Besigye indictment defective and orders plea to follow once it is amended

Justice & Court Rulings Verified Uganda (national) 30 Dec 2025 Severity: 1/5

Justice Emmanuel Baguma agreed with the defence that the indictment against Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale was procedurally defective because the registrar had not signed it or served all parties. According to Nile Post, he ordered the registrar to fix the defect within 15 minutes and directed that the accused take plea immediately afterwards, turning down the defence's request for more time to prepare.

A national event, not tied to one district.
