IGP Byakagaba says police ordered the 7 November crackdown on NUP supporters in Mbarara

Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba told journalists at police headquarters in Naguru that police ordered the crackdown on NUP supporters in Mbarara City on 7 November. According to the Daily Monitor, he said it followed intelligence and a covert investigation into violations of campaign routes, processions and public order rules, and warned that electoral violence would be dealt with decisively. EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi did not state the Commission's position on the admission.
