According to the Daily Monitor, independent candidate Joyce Kidulu Matuka was declared Mbale City mayor with 10,920 votes, ahead of NRM's Vincent Magombe with 10,682 and incumbent Cassim Wamatabu Namugali of FDC with 10,251. The paper reports she is the city's first elected female mayor.
