Inspectorate of Government investigates complaint over reappointment of National Drug Authority board

Corruption & Abuse of Office Verified Uganda (national) 2 Mar 2026 Severity: 1/5

The Inspectorate of Government opened an investigation into a whistleblower complaint alleging that the National Drug Authority board, including chairperson Dr Medard Bitekyerezo, was reappointed without Cabinet approval, security vetting or Finance Ministry clearance, and that the board interferes in management. Deputy IGG Dr Patricia Achan confirmed the probe to the Daily Monitor but said she knew of no directive halting the board's work, while Dr Bitekyerezo denied the allegations.
