Joint transport ministry-police inspection finds car bond operator overcharging for digital number plates

Corruption & Abuse of Office Verified Uganda (national) 2026 (month not reported) Severity: 1/5

According to the Daily Monitor, a joint inspection led by Commissioner Winstone Katushabe of the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Uganda Police found a car bond operator charging motorists Shs850,000 for a new digital registration plate, above the gazetted fee of Shs714,300. The paper reports that documents it reviewed suggest a wider pattern of unexplained fees collected by private agents through non-itemised receipts.

A national event, not tied to one district.
