Justice Baguma rejects Besigye defence request for constitutional reference, orders treason trial to proceed

Justice Emmanuel Baguma dismissed a defence application to refer three questions to the Constitutional Court, ruling that they did not raise substantial constitutional issues, and ordered the treason case to proceed to trial. The defence, led by Ernest Kalibala, had argued that the court's timelines after prosecution disclosure breached the right to a fair hearing under Article 28. Dr. Besigye, Hajji Obeid Lutale and UPDF Captain Denis Oola are charged with allegedly plotting to overthrow the government.
