In a letter dated 27 April 2026, Justice Minister Norbert Mao, who is seeking the Speakership, asked the Clerk to Parliament to schedule the induction of 12th Parliament MPs after the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, according to ChimpReports. He argued the induction risked being overshadowed by the Speakership contest and alleged that the outgoing Speaker had lined up loyalists as facilitators.
