Minister of Local Government Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi directed all local governments to officially name every street and road in their urban areas by 30 August 2026 and install signs by 5 September, submitting approved names and council resolutions to the ministry. According to ChimpReports, the minister said the directive followed guidance from CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and suggested naming streets after cultural leaders, NRA and UPDF heroes, former leaders and other notable Ugandans.
