Magistrate Nankya declines to recuse herself from Male Mabirizi's Computer Misuse Act case

Justice & Court Rulings Verified Uganda (national) 28 Sep 2026 Severity: 1/5

Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Winnie Nankya Jatiko dismissed an oral application by lawyer Male Mabirizi, who represents himself, asking her to step aside over alleged bias. According to the Daily Monitor, she ruled that his grounds, including criminal complaints he said he had filed against her, did not meet the legal test for recusal, and directed the prosecution to read the brief facts. Mabirizi faces four counts under the Computer Misuse Act over social media posts allegedly targeting the Chief Justice and a Court of Appeal judge.

A national event, not tied to one district.
