Medical interns nationwide resolve not to report for duty over NETH policy and welfare

The Interns' Interim Committee, in a notice dated 2 August 2026, said medical interns of the 2026/2027 cohort across the country had agreed not to report to their stations until the NETH policy is withdrawn and stipends and timely monthly pay are guaranteed. The resolution followed talks with Ministry of Health officials led by Minister Chris Baryomunsi on 31 July that ended without agreement, according to the committee. On 3 August interns posted to Mulago National Referral Hospital wrote to its administration saying they could not begin work.
