Museveni assents to Protection of Sovereignty Act, 2026, regulating agents of foreign entities

According to a Presidential Press Unit statement of 17 May 2026, President Yoweri Museveni assented to the Protection of Sovereignty Act, 2026, making it law. URN reports that the Act provides for the registration and regulation of agents of foreign entities and of the funding and other assistance they receive, and names the peace and security department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as the implementing authority. Government says the law will strengthen Uganda's independence in national decision-making.
