Museveni disbands Fisheries Protection Unit and all landing site committees

President Museveni directed the dissolution of all landing site committees on Uganda's lakes and the restructuring of the Fisheries Protection Unit into the 155 Marines Battalion under the UPDF Marines Brigade, according to a statement by acting defence spokesperson Col Chris Magezi reported by the Daily Monitor. The statement cited persistent controversies and complaints from fishing communities, said new committees would be formed within three months, and reassigned Lt Col Mercy Tukahirwa to the office of the Senior Presidential Advisor on Defence and Security.
