Museveni says he 'pardoned' three NRM MPs who faced corruption charges, at Kyankwanzi retreat

Corruption & Abuse of Office Verified Uganda (national) 8 Apr 2026 Severity: 1/5

Opening a retreat for newly elected MPs at Kyankwanzi, President Museveni said MPs Yusuf Mutembuli, Paul Akamba and Cissy Namujju, who had faced corruption charges, had apologised and been 'pardoned', according to the Daily Monitor. Lawyers and analysts including Uganda Law Society vice president Anthony Asiimwe, Peter Walubiri and Maria Matembe said the remarks conflict with constitutional rules that limit the prerogative of mercy to convicted persons. The DPP had discontinued the case against the three MPs in January.

A national event, not tied to one district.
