NEMA and Ntungamo Municipality demolish houses and clear gardens in Kakingora wetland

Officials from NEMA and Ntungamo Municipality used an excavator and casual labourers to demolish houses, garages and shelters, cut crops and cover drainage trenches to restore the Kakingora wetland, the Daily Monitor reports. A NEMA wetland inspector said the occupants had been warned and given notices in 2024 and 2025, while a mechanic whose garage was demolished blamed municipal leaders for directing traders to the area.
