Environmental Issues Official claim Uganda (national) 2 Nov 2020 Severity: 1/5

National Forestry Authority Executive Director Tom Okello told a visiting European Union delegation at Bugoma Forest Reserve that an ongoing review of forest degradation had found 450 illegal land titles in forest reserves, mostly in Wakiso, Mukono, Mpigi and Masaka districts. He said the list was still growing and blamed impunity and corruption. Minister of State for Environment Beatrice Anywar acknowledged that illegal titles had been issued in forest reserves and lakes and said they are cancelled once discovered.

A national event, not tied to one district.

Official claim: These are the figures given by National Forestry Authority; they could not be checked independently.
