Nine police officers formerly guarding Kyagulanyi dismissed by Police Court for neglect of duty

Civic Space & Media Freedom Verified Uganda (national) 11 Mar 2026 Severity: 2/5

The Daily Monitor reports that counter-terrorism officers the Electoral Commission had assigned to guard NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi were arrested and, after appearing before a police court on 11 March, were reportedly dismissed with disgrace for neglect of duty. Kyagulanyi said nine officers were dismissed on the allegation that they helped him escape the 16 January raid on his home, and that two of them were detained again afterwards. Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke told NTV he had not yet been briefed on the case.

A national event, not tied to one district.
