NUP nominates Paul Mwiru as its candidate for Speaker of the 12th Parliament

The National Unity Platform named Jinja South East MP Paul Mwiru as its candidate for Speaker of the 12th Parliament, according to a party statement issued after its leadership met the new parliamentary caucus. In the statement, NUP said Parliament should regain its autonomy and objected to a serving army officer endorsing candidates for parliamentary leadership. The party said it would seek a joint opposition candidate for Deputy Speaker with like-minded parties.
