Odonga-Otto rejects 26-vote loss in Aruu County MP race, alleging tallying irregularities

Election Related Disputed Pader Jan 2026 (day not reported) Severity: 1/5

Independent candidate Samuel Odonga-Otto rejected the declaration of NRM's Christopher Komakech as Aruu County MP by 10,455 votes to 10,429, saying the Pader District Returning Officer declared results without his legal team present despite calls for a recount. He cited 407 invalid votes in the MP race against 46 in the Woman MP race and said he would petition court for a fresh election. Returning Officer Eric Gimei apologised for not noticing the protest but defended the declaration, while Komakech dismissed the allegations.

Disputed: Odonga-Otto says the declaration was premature and the tally suspect, while the Returning Officer defends the declaration and Komakech says his true margin was 65 votes.
