Opposition MPs raise detention of Fr. Ssekabira in Parliament; Attorney General pledges court appearance

In Parliament on 16 December 2025, Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi questioned the UPDF's role in arresting and holding Fr. Deusdedit Ssekabira, and MPs Joseph Ssewungu and Asuman Basalirwa called for him to be charged in court and for the officers involved to be sanctioned. Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka responded that the government was following up to have the priest produced in court quickly and that anyone found to have broken the law would be sanctioned.
