Over 100 NUP parliamentary flagbearers fail to register with the Electoral Commission during nomination exercise

Election Related Single source Uganda (national) 23 Oct 2025 Severity: 1/5

According to the Nile Post, which cites insider sources, at least 100 of the more than 400 National Unity Platform (NUP) members given party cards to contest parliamentary seats did not complete registration during the Electoral Commission's two-day nomination exercise. Sources said some aspirants withdrew for lack of funds and that the party struggled to pay registration fees of three million shillings per candidate after IPOD funding was suspended. NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya said the exact number was still being worked out and blamed several factors, including some aspirants losing required documents.

A national event, not tied to one district.
