Parliament committee questions doubling of Busega–Mpigi Expressway cost, demands original contract

Corruption & Abuse of Office Disputed Uganda (national) 24 Mar 2026 Severity: 1/5

According to The Independent, Parliament's Committee on Physical Infrastructure, chaired by Dan Kimosho, questioned officials of the Ministry of Works and Transport over the Busega–Mpigi Expressway contract price rising from Shs547.5 billion to over Shs1.2 trillion. Minister Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala attributed the increase to design and scope changes, while Kimosho said the jump pointed to deeper problems and called for accountability. The committee directed the ministry to submit the original contract as part of a probe.

A national event, not tied to one district.

Disputed: The ministry attributes the cost increase to design and scope changes; the committee chair rejects that explanation as insufficient.
