Parliament handed Uganda Railways Corporation Managing Director Benon Kajuna to police to record a statement over 394 railway wagons, valued at about Shs220.8 billion, that the Auditor General could not trace. According to URN, URC told MPs there was no offence on its part, attributing the losses to asset discrepancies under the former concessionary Rift Valley Railways. URC also disputed reports that more than Shs25 billion of a Spanish loan was spent on staff training, saying the capacity-building component was about €4.82 million and was paid directly to the Spanish contractor.
A national event, not tied to one district.
Disputed: Media reports from the committee probe said Shs25 billion was spent on staff training, while URC says the component was about €4.82 million (about Shs20.8 billion) and covered the contractor's wider operations.
