Parliament voted against a Physical Infrastructure Committee recommendation to terminate immediately the operation and maintenance contract for the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, after Government Chief Whip Jane Ruth Aceng argued that ending it with nine months left would not benefit the country. The House adopted other recommendations, directing the government to recover money lost through allegedly irregular free passes, based on an Auditor General audit, and approving an investigation into former UNRA officials involved in awarding the original Shs122 billion contract to Egis. The operator, Pinnacle Security Limited, disputed the committee's reading of figures on unreconciled vehicles.
A national event, not tied to one district.
Disputed: The committee said 10,446 vehicles could not be reconciled with toll records, while Pinnacle said the committee's interpretation was flawed because of differing definitions of a traffic day.
