Parliament suspends nomination of Uganda's EALA candidates over legal questions on vacancies

Election Related Verified Uganda (national) 28 Mar 2026 Severity: 1/5

Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige announced the suspension of nominations for Uganda's East African Legislative Assembly seats, which had been set for March 30 and 31, according to the Daily Monitor. The paper reports the decision followed questions over whether vacancies could be declared before the outgoing members are sworn into the 12th Parliament, and Attorney General advice on when an election process is complete. Aspirants reacted differently, with one saying he is considering a court challenge.

A national event, not tied to one district.
