Parliament suspends Works Ministry guidelines capping per-kilometre cost of district road maintenance

Policy & Legislation Single source Uganda (national) 2 Apr 2026 Severity: 1/5

ChimpReports reports that Parliament suspended new Ministry of Works and Transport guidelines that capped district road rehabilitation costs at Shs8 million to Shs20 million per kilometre under the Shs1 billion district road maintenance fund. Kassanda County North MP Patrick Nsamba Oshabe (NUP) said the cap would cut the length of roads districts could maintain, and Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua said he would write to the ministry to halt implementation.

A national event, not tied to one district.
