Parliament's education committee recommends individual verification of unrecognised Ernest Cook (ECUREI) degrees

Policy & Legislation Single source Uganda (national) 2 Oct 2026 Severity: 1/5

ChimpReports says Parliament's Committee on Education and Sports, chaired by Emmanuel Ongiertho, presented a report on a petition from graduates whose ECUREI degrees awarded between 2011 and 2017 are not recognised. The committee recommended that the National Council for Higher Education verify each affected graduate's records and find a lawful way to recognise qualifications that met the requirements, and issue guidelines defining 'equivalent' admission qualifications within three months of the report's adoption. The petitioners allege that the institution admitted them to programmes that had not been accredited.

A national event, not tied to one district.
