Parliament's Finance Committee recommends Shs18.84bn tax waiver for NewPlan Limited

According to ChimpReports, Parliament's Finance Committee presented a majority report recommending that Parliament remit Shs18.84 billion in tax arrears owed by NewPlan Limited, an engineering consultancy that worked on EACOP land acquisition. The committee said the company was in severe financial distress and that further recovery by URA was unlikely to be cost-effective, and asked the Finance Minister to report on recovery of a further Shs295.05 million. The waiver still requires approval by Parliament.
